Your rank is higher than me (or General Manager), does this mean you are good?
It all begun on one Saturday afternoon where there was a trip in the company I am working now. I am new to this job and the trip had caused the server / system to shut down and I am the only one handling it. My so called team mate is in Thailand on Department trip. It's all onto me then.
The General Manager, then leave the trip test to me and on-guard the server. I have no consent at all and not given any instruction or ANY IDEA of anyhow knowing the the trip test would affect the system / server since the plug connected to UPS Backup Battery is inefficient. The UPS Backup Battery eventually gone off with the trip test and the server shuts down and I thought the trip test would go on a few minutes in which the UPS backup battery may support of up to half an hour... Who knows?
On that time, March, I was on probation period. The situation had critically siezed my minds and does not know what to do. I was stormed that the server shuts down everytime I restarted (Linux in which I am not familiar with) and this event repeated for 6-7 times. I begun to fed up and wanted to call the General Manager regarding this issue. But eventually my IT Manager came in and I reported to him regarding these matter. He was shocked to hear that and ask what is the solution. I told him...
"In this case, you have to call up XXX Company to dealt with this as they are familiar with the linux system. But nevermind, I will try to restart the server to see if there is any chance or not."He then called this General Manager and nag him of this matter. The General Manager then, called back to the company and shouts at me...
I told him...
"The trip just now has affected the server and it is shut down in an imporper manner. I cannot start the server now.""Joseph, what had you told Mr.J? Why he keeps on shouting at me and doesn't stop yelling at me. I don't care a fuck man. You stay in the company until the server gets back to normal. I don't care whatever you done to that server and YOU MUST GET IT DONE BY MONDAY. You stay in the company on night, sunday. I don't care a FUCK man. You better do something with it." He slams the phone.....
"THUD" This whole sentence still blinking clear in my minds as I flash back.
I understand this situation that on Monday, the NAFA students will be in for industrial training in which the server must be up...
Again, I am alone now in the company, it's nearly 5P.M and I still haven't had my lunch.
I am really suffering chaos from these people. I prayed to god (and delighting you always full of surprises) HARDLY to free me from this hell and get things back to normal. At that time, my tears almost dropped. I get back to the server and continue doing the same thing.... this time whenever one line finish executing (LINUX), I hit enter a lots of time and it stops ....... without shutting down.
I glimpse at the screen for a MINUTE (60 seconds). It WORKED! Silly isn't it. I have no idea what the commands are showing and even though I called the person in charge, they say have to wait till MONDAY...It is a moment of celebration, a moment of tears that god bring to me. I was happy and get back to that general Manager in a normal mood (pretending I am doing fine with the fixture, professionally).
"Mr.R, the server is now getting back to normal and it's working fine now. It won't be a problem on monday for the studio user's and the students to access the server. It's all done." The General Manager pauses for a a few seconds and said calmly....
"Ok, you better make sure it alright..........." and talked quite a number of junks. I forgot.
Today (4th July 2006), same thing again happened. I have no idea that this General Manager's laptop cannot start (due to the adaptor faulty). My colleague tried to switch on but cannot until they approach me and questioned what had happen to the "Old Man's" Computer. (( For your info, the General Manager is almost 50 years old with no clue of how Information Technology meant)) I inspected the laptop and comment on it. My colleague then told him his laptop is faulty....
Stupid laptop, Eat this! The "Old Man" then called me and again in a very soft voice... "Joseph, you know what happen to my computer. What have you done!" I told him I done nothing and have no consent at all. He said... "You help me solve this matter quick, I need to get back to my work on my laptop." I told him... "It probably is the Adaptor faulty", then he told me to dealth with it and hung up.
The power adaptor that ruined my day! I called my sister's BF and ask if there's any spare adaptor and he told me to send the info and the the process will take 3 working days.
It's 5.40P.M. I called him back informing him that HP needs 3 days to deliver his part. He nagged.... "Joseph, I don't care what you do today, you quickly get me an adaptor because tomorrow I am going to do my job. I HAVE A $200,000 project awaiting me and I don't care what you are doing now. GO TO SIM LIM or WHATEVER place".
I rushed down to Sim Lim Square taking a cab......
I was relieve to overcame these "small" matter and eventually got the adaptor which cost $80 =D
A bit of info : The "Old Man" is not really favourable in the company and almost 80% of the employees in the company dislike him. But sometimes, he do fetch me home (coincidence) and alight me near MRT. Of course, I save a lot of money. I don't care!

Some Questions :
(1) Does Singaporean has to be so rude in the way they talked? 60% of Singaporean are rude in the way of talking to their partner. This is not considered
Kiasu anymore. It's relatively same as the french in an uneducated manner and the way of dealing with people to people.
A : That's why a partial Singaporeans got scars whenever they came back from Malaysia's holiday/trip (especially Johore). 样哀
(2) Should they considered themselve self pro-active or dominant?
A : Not really since they are self-confidence at all times.
(3) Should they threat Singaporeans (themself), other nations equally.
A : Hardly.. Because they don't understand what is
UNDERSTANDING.
(4) Chinese in Singapore 89% wore spectacles. Does this men they are well-educated?
A : Not at all. After all they looked down on people with LP (Low Profile) Qualifications. In small companies, all they want is ALL-YOU-CAN-DO and deserted the Degree Certificate Lookup. That's where they got cheap labour since they know you are dying looking for a job.
I am not saying most Singaporean are like the above, just partially....
These are just personal opinions and no offense. Again, not all Malaysians are good after all. They are the same. But what came to me is my ex-boss he will talk with you in a good manner but sometimes in a "Funny RUDE way". Not rude after all but in terms of socialize professionally, he fail to communicate.
"Fuck la.... do it la......" or
"Fuck you ar"Although it sounds like you are fired but I think you shouldn't talk like that to your employee. We call it no manners. A good employer doesn't mean that he is good. Some came from well-educated provision but with bad behavior, which is FAIL to be an employer. If an employer is to talk with the employee, no "FUCK" should be inherit into the phrase / sentences. Say it politely and no offense.
What I want to emphasis here is......
"Not everyone is perfect. We live to learn even though we are on top of someone."
